Cedar Shake, Algae, and Damage Felida Homeowners Underestimate
Cedar shake is part of Felida's roof stock and it ages differently than asphalt. Cedar lasts 25-40 years when properly maintained but can fail in 15 if it stays wet, gets moss-covered, or was nailed too tight at install. Repair-friendly cedar shake issues include split shakes, blown-off shakes after wind events, moss-trapped sections that hold water, and worn ridge cap. Repair-impossible cedar issues include widespread rot through the field and decking that has stayed wet for years. Moss on any Felida roof is not cosmetic. It sponges moisture against the shingle or shake mat, lifts edges during freeze-thaw, and shortens roof service life by 3-5 years. Algae streaks strip granules from asphalt and accelerate UV damage. Pressure washing is the wrong fix and voids most manufacturer warranties. Valiant brush-cleans, treats with non-corrosive soap, and installs zinc strips at the ridge so the roof self-treats for years.
